Nevertheless, the quality of the show suffered, and its final season came as a disappointment to fans and critics alike. The rinse-repeat quality of the story isn’t completely obvious by the end of this first book, now turning a quarter. Martin informed the series writers on the broad strokes of where he planned on taking the story. However, in its fifth season, the story caught up with the books and needed to surpass the novels in subsequent seasons. Game of Thrones first debuted in 2011 and quickly became a hit with audiences. A prequel series, HBO's House of The Dragon, premiered in September to critical and commercial success. The book series originated in 1996 and was famously adapted into the hugely acclaimed Game of Thrones series on HBO. The novel is the long-anticipated next installment in the series of epic fantasy books titled A Song of Ice and Fire. Martin says his next book Winds of Winter is 75% done. He continued: "It's my world, and while I have been working closely with some fantastic writers and showrunners, ultimately it is up to me to try to keep the canon… well, canonical… and to do all I can to help make the new shows great.Games of Thronesauthor George R.R. "Those have taken a ton of my time and attention this year," Martin wrote. In a new blog post shared on Wednesday morning, Martin gave fans updates on his writing progress for "The Winds of Winter," the anticipated sixth novel in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series - the basis of HBO's "Game of Thrones." The writer said he's made progress on the book in 20, but also said the "successor shows" have been a focus. Martin infamously stopped working closely with the "Game of Thrones" showrunners after the fourth season, but the author recently said he's been "deeply, heavily involved" with the pre-production process on all the upcoming HBO prequel shows.
